Alpha condensing combi boiler with an intermittent fault, when the temperature drops the boiler trips the electrics. Had British Gas out about six months ago who couldn’t find anything wrong with the system. But problem is now getting worse now the cold weather has come.

What we did:
The job was booked in for a time slot that was convenient with the customer. A pre-authorisation of the customer’s credit card was taken on our secure PCI regulated system, for our customers security.

Although all our gas engineers have vast experience in boiler breakdown, in fault finding problems such as this, our Call Advisors will always send one of our more senior engineers to save the customer time and money.

Our engineer found the fault to be the flue and is a common mistake to make with Alpha boilers. Most boilers require the flue to be angled slightly upwards or horizontally, however, Alpha boiler are slightly different, it is recommended that the flue be angled slightly downwards. On this boiler, the flue was angled slightly upwards, and this was causing the condensation that developed on cold days to drip onto the thermostat.

A second visit was organised, and confirmed in writing via our Call Agent, to re-adjust the flue, and fit a new thermostat, that had water damage.

This seem to of rectified the problem, but as the fault is intermittent, customer is aware to call us, should the problem re-occur.

What the problem was:
Customer put the heating on for the first time after the summer and upstairs radiators are heating up as normal, but downstairs radiators are cold.

What we provided:
Customer was at work all week, and couldn’t arrange time off, so we gave him the option of either an early evening appointment, or a Saturday booking. Customer opted for a Saturday booking, at no additional cost. The YourRepair Call Advisor checked the online diary management system to arrange the first available appointment slot.

The engineer arrived on Saturday morning in full YourRepair uniform carrying ID to confirm where he was from. He suspected that it wasn’t a fault with the boiler, but a blockage in the system.

To test this, he turned of all the radiators upstairs, and and then the radiators started warming up downstairs. As they did, he turned each one off, until the final radiator was getting warm, this was then bled.

When the engineer then turned the radiators back on, the heat was evenly spread throughout the house. He checked the boiler whilst he was at the property to ensure this was working correctly.

Work was completed in under one hour.

Blockage removed from radiator, and heat being distributed evenly through the system.
