Home Appliance Cover - What To Look Out For
Your home appliances are central to the daily running of your household. We all rely on them for our food, our cleanliness, and to make our lives that little bit more straightforward. Taking care of our home appliances is a must, simply because when they break down, the cost of repair can often prove unaffordable and time-consuming. With our home appliance cover, you can ensure that you are in the best position possible if something goes wrong with your boiler this winter. With home appliance cover from Your Repair Home Plan, you can even cover appliances which have been bought second hand and which are not otherwise covered by a warranty.
Insurance versus warranties - what's the difference?
Warranties on home appliances tend to be bought in-store at the time of purchase. The extra cost covers the individual appliance you have bought against faults and breakdowns for a set period of time, usually of around one year. Extended warranties are similar, but can last until an appliance is up to eight years old. Warranties, along with product guarantees, are usually provided by the manufacturer or retailer.
A home appliance cover policy covers numerous appliances for a set amount each month. You do not have to set up the cover as soon as you buy a new appliance, and you can cover items that have been bought second-hand. Cover for your appliances can be bought online or over the phone, and are not purchased in-store.
Relying on warranties and guarantees
When you buy a new appliance, it may come with a warranty promising that if anything goes wrong, the manufacturer will repair or replace the item. This is obviously very helpful, however, warranties and manufacturer guarantees only last for a set time period, usually between one and five years.
In some cases, you are required to sign up for the warranty when you purchase the appliance. You may need to complete and send off a card, or retain a receipt of purchase, which may be difficult after you have owned an item for a year or more. If you have bought second hand, these appliances are not even going to be covered by a warranty.
Your appliance may come with either a full warranty, which would cover any faults or damages for a limited period or a limited warranty which will only cover certain parts or specific defects. Whichever warranty you have, they will not cover normal wear and tear.
Extended warranties are another option. They require you to pay an extra amount on top of the cost of your appliance but cover you for breakdowns and damages for an extended period. However, extended warranties are often expensive, especially if you are paying this extra cost on each individual appliance from different manufacturers. Extended warranties often have a lot of hidden terms and conditions, and making a claim can lead to long lists of questions regarding parts and 'pre-existing conditions' or damages.
Other downsides can include having to send your appliances away for extended periods of time for repairs. Manufacturers may not be able to send out engineers to your home to check the problems, so your appliance could need to be sent away for 2-3 weeks at a time, or more.

We all rely on our home and kitchen appliances so much that a breakdown can cause undue stress and strain in our already busy lives.
