What the problem was:
The customer’s boiler hadn’t been working for the last 10 days due to being let down by someone they knew who was a plumber, and they had no hot water or heating. The boiler is a Potterton Promax, system boiler.
What we did:
The customer was given a number of clear options, of our services and costs. The customer opted for a £99 fixed price boiler repair, alongside YourCare Boiler and Central Heating Care Plan for £20 per month for 12 months, which reassured the customer, as he knew he could call us out, without charge if he had any further problems with his boiler, controls or central heating system.
An appointment was scheduled with the client for after 6pm as this was the only time he was available due to his job. The engineer who attended the appointment was carrying his Gas Safe ID to show the customer to confirmation that both our company and the engineer are on the Gas Safe Register.
On diagnosis, the thermocouple was found to be faulty and needed replacing, the engineer carried out the repair during the visit. A first service was also carried out, which fully checks the boiler, to make sure that the appliance was safe, and also that it was running fefficiently and economicaly, as the YourCare plan that he signed up for included an annual boiler service.
The repair was carried out when convenient for the customer, quickly and without a return visit, so as not to disrupt the customer any further. What the problem was:
LPG Worcester Bosch 14/19 CBI experiencing ignition problems. Boiler didn’t light up by the timer, then it went straight to lock-out and didn’t come on manually. The client had already had an engineer out from another company to try and repair, he re-set the gas sense electrode and checked that it worked manually but he didn’t check with the timer or room stat. After manual re-setting it stayed on for about half an hour and then went off again. The customer has tried to call the engineer back, but he said he would come back, didn’t turn up, and then he stopped answering his mobile.
What we provided:
A heating engineer with the relevant LPG qualifications and experience was despatched to the job. Although the previous engineer claimed to have replaced the gas sensing electrode, our YourRepair engineer found that the electrode wires were shorting to the casing under the burner. He renewed the electrodes and wires and gave them a thorough check over We ensured that we tested the boiler manually, and also when the boiler was on timer, and also so that it kicked in with the room stat. Before confirming to the customer that the repair was complete.
